The Bill for this Act of the Scottish Parliament was passed on 15th March 2000 and received Royal Assent on 10 April 2000

An Act of the Scottish Parliament to amend the Census Act 1920 to enable particulars about religion to be gathered.

1Particulars about religion may be gathered in census

(1)In the Schedule to the Census Act 1920 (c. 41) (matters in respect of which particulars may be required), after paragraph 5 there is inserted—

5AReligion..

(2)In section 8 (penalties) of that Act, after subsection (1) there is inserted—

(1A)But no person shall be liable to a penalty under subsection (1) for refusing or neglecting to state any particulars in respect of religion..

2Short title

This Act may be cited as the Census (Amendment) (Scotland) Act 2000.
