The requirement imposed on an education authority by section 87A of the Education (Scotland) Act 1980 (c. 44) to advertise a vacant post of principal teacher is, for the period specified in subsection (2) below, suspended.

That period is the period of one year (or such longer period as the Scottish Ministers may by order substitute for that period) beginning with the coming into force of this section.

An order under subsection (2) above shall be made by statutory instrument which shall be subject to annulment in pursuance of a resolution of the Scottish Parliament.
