1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Student Support) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005 and shall come into operation on 11th July 2005.
2. In these Regulations, “the 2003 Regulations” means the Education (Student Support) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003(4).
3. The 2003 Regulations shall be amended as provided by regulations 4 and 5.
4. In regulation 11 (Maximum amounts of grants), in paragraph (1)(j) for “£1,050” there shall be substituted “£1,075”.
5. In regulation 4 (Eligible students), in paragraph (2) –
(a)at the beginning of sub-paragraph (c)(i) there shall be inserted “Subject to sub-paragraph (g)”;
(b)after sub-paragraph (f) there shall be inserted the following paragraph:
“(g)he is, on or after 1st September 2005, commencing a degree in social work course at an educational institution in Northern Ireland as a Regional Social Work Degree Trainee under arrangements made by the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety under Article 44 of the Health and Personal Social Services (Northern Ireland) Order 1972(5).”.

These Regulations further amend the Education (Student Support) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003 (“the principal Regulations”) as amended by the Education (Student Support) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2004 (“the amending Regulations”).
Regulation 4 corrects a drafting error.
Regulation 5 expands regulation 4(1)(c)(i) of the principal Regulations, substituted in the amending Regulations, and includes a new sub-paragraph (g) to exclude Regional Social Work Degree Trainees commencing Social Work Degree courses on or after 1st September 2005 from financial support under the Regulations.
