In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 1(5) and (7) and 42(7) of, and paragraph 3 of Schedule 1 to, the Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998(1), the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Regulations:

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the General Teaching Council for England (Constitution) (Amendment) Regulations 2000 and shall come into force on 30th June 2000.

2.  The General Teaching Council for England (Constitution) Regulations 1999(2) shall be amended by—

(a)the substitution in regulation 3 of “64” for “63”;

(b)the substitution in regulation 8 of “17” for “16”;

(c)the deletion of the word “and” at the end of regulation 8(m);

(d)the insertion of the word “and” at the end of regulation 8(n); and

(e)the insertion after regulation 8(n) of the following paragraph:

(o)one member by the Disability Rights Commission..

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the General Teaching Council for England (Constitution) Regulations 1999 (S.I. 1999/1726) to provide for the Disability Rights Commission to appoint one member of the Council. The membership of the Council is thereby increased to 64 members.
