2. Article 2 of the Fertilisers (Mammalian Meat and Bone Meal) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996(1) shall be amended by—
(a)substituting for the definition of “mammalian meat and bone meal” the following definition—
““mammalian meat and bone meal” means mammalian protein derived from the whole or part of any dead mammal by rendering or, in the case of an imported product, by an equivalent process;” and
(b)inserting after the definition of “mammalian meat and bone meal” the following definitions—
““protein” means any proteinaceous material which is derived from a carcase but does not include:
milk or any milk product;
dicalcium bone phosphate;
dried plasma or any other blood product;
gelatin; or
amino acids produced from hides and skins by a process which involves exposure of the material to acid of pH less than 2 followed by alkali of pH greater than 11, followed by heat treatment at at least 140°C for 30 minutes at 3 bar pressure;”
“rendering” means “rendering” as defined in the Animal By-Products Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1993(2);“”.
