ROAD TRAFFIC AND VEHICLES

The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 1 of the Road Traffic Offenders (Northern Ireland) Order 1996(1) and paragraph 2(1) of Schedule 1 to the Northern Ireland Act 1974(2) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic Offenders (1996 Order) (Commencement No. 1) Order (Northern Ireland) 1997.
2. The day appointed for the coming into operation of Article 23 of the Road Traffic Offenders (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 shall be 1st August 1997.

This Order brings into operation on 1st August 1997 Article 23 (Speeding offences etc: admissibility of certain evidence) of the Road Traffic Offenders (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 which makes provision for the admission in evidence, in proceedings for certain road traffic offences, of information recorded or measured by prescribed devices. These devices are prescribed in the Road Traffic Offenders (Prescribed Devices) (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 (S.R. 1997 No. 280).
