Rates (Regional Rates) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998

To be laid before Parliament under paragraph 3(3) of Schedule 1 to the Northern Ireland Act 1974
Coming into operation
The Department of Finance and Personnel1, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Articles 2(2), 7(1) and 27(4) of the Rates (Northern Ireland) Order 19772 and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, and having taken into consideration estimates of the amounts required to be raised by means of district rates as required by Article 7(4) of that Order, hereby makes the following Order:—
Citation, commencement and interpretation1

This Order may be cited as the Rates (Regional Rates) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998 and shall come into operation on 1st April 1998.

In this Order—
“specified hereditament” means a hereditament of a type specified under Article 3 of the New Valuation List (Time and Class of Hereditaments) Order (Northern Ireland) 19953;
“unspecified hereditament” means a hereditament which is not a specified hereditament.
Regional rate2
The regional rates for the year ending 31st March 1999 shall be 26·68 pence in the pound in respect of specified hereditaments and 169·19 pence in the pound in respect of unspecified hereditaments.
Reduction of regional rate on dwellings3
The amount by which the normal regional rate fixed for the year ending 31st March 1999 under Article 2 is to be reduced in respect of unspecified hereditaments for the purposes of paragraphs (2) and (3) of Article 27 of the Rates (Northern Ireland) Order 1977 shall be 70 pence.
