BETTING, GAMING AND LOTTERIES

Gaming (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order (Northern Ireland) 1999

The Department of Health and Social Services, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Articles 75(2), 76(5), 106(3) and 108(16) of the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (Northern Ireland) Order 1985(1) and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Gaming (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order (Northern Ireland) 1999 and shall come into operation on 19th February 1999.

(2) In this Order “the Order” means the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (Northern Ireland) Order 1985.

Maximum amount of weekly winnings in games of bingo played simultaneously on different bingo club premises

2.  For the purposes of Article 75(2)(ii) of the Order instead of £25,000(2) the amount £30,000 is hereby specified.

Maximum amount by which weekly winnings on bingo club premises may exceed the stakes hazarded

3.  For the purposes of Article 76(5) of the Order instead of £5,000(3) the amount £5,500 is hereby specified.

Maximum charge for playing a game once by means of a gaming machine in a registered club

4.  For the purposes of Article 106(3) of the Order instead of “£0.30”(4) the sum of “£0.50” is hereby specified.

Maximum entitlement to prizes in gaming by means of a gaming machine on licensed premises within the meaning of the Licensing (Northern Ireland) Order 1996

5.  In Article 108(8) and (9) of the Order for “£10”(5) there shall be substituted “£15”.

Revocations

6.  The following are hereby revoked–

(a)Articles 2, 3 and 5 of the Gaming and Amusements with Prizes (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996(6);

(b)Article 3 of the Gaming (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998(7).

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This Order–

(a)increases the maximum permitted aggregate amount of winnings in respect of games of bingo played in 1 week simultaneously on different bingo club premises from £25,000 to £30,000;

(b)increases the maximum amount by which weekly winnings on bingo club premises may exceed the stakes hazarded from £5,000 to £5,500;

(c)increases the maximum charge for playing a game once by means of a gaming machine in a registered club from £0.30 to £0.50; and

(d)increases the maximum entitlement to prizes in gaming by means of a gaming machine installed on licensed premises (within the meaning of the Licensing (Northern Ireland) Order 1996) from £10 to £15.
