The Welfare Reform and Pensions (1999 Order) (Commencement No. 9) Order (Northern Ireland) 2001

27th December 2001

The Department for Social Development, in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 1(2) of the Welfare Reform and Pensions (Northern Ireland) Order 1999(1), and now vested in it(2), and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and interpretation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Welfare Reform and Pensions (1999 Order) (Commencement No. 9) Order (Northern Ireland) 2001.

(2) In this Order, “the Order” means the Welfare Reform and Pensions (Northern Ireland) Order 1999 and any reference to a numbered Article or Schedule is to the Article of, or Schedule to, the Order bearing that number.

Appointed days

2.  The day appointed for the coming into operation of—

(a)the provisions of the Order specified in Part I of the Schedule, is 1st January 2002; and

(b)the provisions of the Order specified in Part II of the Schedule, is 1st February 2002.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This Order provides for the coming into operation of further provisions of the Welfare Reform and Pensions (Northern Ireland) Order 1999 as follows—

  • paragraph 4 of Schedule 2 (ways of giving effect to protected rights: interim arrangements), in so far as not already in operation, and Article 17 in so far as it relates to that paragraph, and various repeals in Schedule 10, on 1st January 2002, and

  • paragraph 12 of Schedule 2 (occupational pension schemes: certificates etc. relating to minimum funding requirement), in so far as not already in operation, and Article 17 in so far as it relates to that paragraph and a related repeal in Schedule 10, on 1st February 2002.
