The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 11(1) of the Carers and Direct Payments Act (Northern Ireland) 2002(1), and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Carers and Direct Payments (2002 Act) (Commencement No. 1) Order (Northern Ireland) 2003.
(2) In this Order –
“the Act” means the Carers and Direct Payments Act (Northern Ireland) 2002.
2. 31st March 2003 is the day appointed for the coming into operation of the following provisions of the Act: –
(a)Section 1 (Rights of carers to assessment)
(b)Section 2 (Services for carers)
(c)Section 4 (Assessment and services for children who are carers)
(d)Section 5 (Assessments: carers of disabled children)
(e)Section 7 (Information for carers)
(f)Section 10 (Interpretation and regulation)

This Order provides for the coming into operation on 31st March 2003 of sections 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, and 10 of the Carers and Direct Payments Act (Northern Ireland) 2002 which makes provision for assessment of carers needs and the provision for services to help carers.
