Coming into operation
The Department of the Environment, being a Department designated1 for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 19722 in relation to measures relating to the control and regulation of genetically modified organisms, in exercise of the powers conferred by that section and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement1
These Regulations may be cited as the Genetically Modified Organisms (Deliberate Release) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003 and shall come into operation on 15th April 2003.
Interpretation2

The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 19545 shall apply to these regulations as it applies to an Act of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
Revocation and replacement of provisions for the Advisory Committee for the purposes of the Order3

Regulation 37 of the Regulations shall be revoked and replaced as follows.

After Article 22 of the Order there shall be inserted –
Advisory Committee22A

The Department shall appoint a Committee to provide it with advice –
a
on the exercise of its powers under Articles 8, 9 and 10;
b
on the exercise of any power under this Order to make regulations,
and on such matters concerning the Department’s functions under this Order as the Department may from time to time direct.

The Chairman and other members of the Committee shall hold and vacate office in accordance with the terms of their appointment.

The Department shall pay to the members of the Committee such remuneration (if any) and such allowances as it may determine.
