Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Flags Regulations (Northern Ireland) (Amendment) 2002 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which they are made.

Amendment of the Flags Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000

2.  In Part II of the Schedule to the Flags Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000(2) –

(a)there shall be inserted the following entries –

1st June 2002Official Celebration of Her Majesty’s Golden Jubilee
3rd June 2002Official Celebration of Her Majesty’s Golden Jubilee
4th June 2002Official Celebration of Her Majesty’s Golden Jubilee; and

(b)the following entries shall be omitted –

4th AugustBirthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother
21st AugustBirthday of the Princess Margaret.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Flags Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000 (the principal Regulations). They provide that the Union Flag is no longer to be flown on the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and The Princess Margaret. They also provide that the Union Flag is to be flown in accordance with the principal Regulations on the 1st, 3rd and 4th June 2002 in Official Celebration of Her Majesty’s Golden Jubilee.
