The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 26(4) of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2003(1) hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2003 (Commencement) Order 2004.
2. Sections 26(1) to 26(3) of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2003 (protected disclosures by police officers) shall come into force on 15th December 2004.

This Commencement Order brings into force provisions in the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2003 amending the Employment Rights (Northern Ireland) Order 1996(2). The effect is to extend to police officers protection from unfair dismissal when they make protected disclosures of information.
