The Lay Visitors' Reports Order 2005

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 73(3)(c) of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000(1), hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Lay Visitors' Reports Order 2005, and shall come into operation on 1st October 2005.

Lay Visitors' Reports

2.  The Northern Ireland Policing Board shall require the report by a lay visitor specified in section 73(2) of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 to deal with the conduct of interviews with detainees.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

The Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 (c. 32) requires lay visitors to attend designated police stations and to report to the Northern Ireland Policing Board about the visit. Section 73(3)(c) empowers the Secretary of State to require such reports to deal with such matters as he may specify. This Order requires the report to deal with the conduct of interviews with detainees.
