The Department of the Environment makes the following Order, in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 1(2) of the Road Traffic (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Order 1991(1).

Citation

1.  This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic (Amendment) (1991 Order) (Commencement No.2) Order (Northern Ireland) 2011.

Appointed day

2.  The day appointed for the coming into operation of Article 7 of the Road Traffic (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Order 1991(2) (compulsory training courses for riders of motor cycles) is 21st February 2011.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into operation on 21st February 2011 Article 7 of the Road Traffic (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Order 1991 which has the effect of requiring motor cyclists, who have yet to pass a test of competence to drive a motor bicycle, to undergo compulsory training unless exempted by Regulations from having to do so.

The following provisions of the Road Traffic (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Order 1991 have been brought into operation by commencement order made before the date of this Order.

Article 7(4), in relation to the insertion of sub-paragraph (d) into Article 13(3) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981, (6), (7)(a) and (7)(b) in relation to the insertion of sub-paragraph (b) into Article 14(3) of that Order were repealed by Schedule 4 to S.I. 1995/2994 (N.I. 18) and paragraphs (2), (4), (5) and (7) were amended by paragraph 3 of Schedule 2 to S.R. 1996 No.426
