The Discontinuance of Prisons (Scotland) Order 2000

Coming into force in accordance with article 1

The Scottish Ministers, in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by section 37(1) of the Prisons (Scotland) Act 1989(1) and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Discontinuance of Prisons (Scotland) Order 2000 and shall come into force as follows:–

(a)articles 1 and 2 on 7th July 2000; and

(b)article 3 on 28th July 2000.

Discontinuance of prisons

2.  Penninghame prison and Longriggend prison are hereby discontinued.

3.  Dungavel prison is hereby discontinued.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order provides for the discontinuance of three prisons. Penninghame prison and Longriggend prison will discontinue as prisons on 7th July 2000. Dungavel prison will discontinue as a prison on 28th July 2000.
