Qualifications

I1189 Amendments of Part 5 of Education Act 1997

Schedule 17 (which contains amendments of Part 5 of the Education Act 1997 (c. 44) relating to the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and the Qualifications, Curriculum and Assessment Authority for Wales) shall have effect.

190F1Local authority functions: qualifications

A F1local authority may award or authenticate academic and vocational qualifications, and may in particular—

a

devise and administer a qualification or a course leading to a qualification,

b

register candidates,

c

set, administer and moderate examinations or other assessments, and

d

require the payment of fees in respect of the exercise of the power.

A F1local authority may secure the exercise by any other person of such of the authority’s powers under subsection (1) as the authority may specify.

A F1local authority may exercise their powers under this section by forming, or participating in forming, or being a member of, a body corporate.

The powers under this section shall be regarded as always having been within the powers of a F1local authority; and this section is without prejudice to the generality of the powers of a F1local authority.
