Armed Forces Act 2011 Explanatory Notes

Territorial Extent and Application

13.The Act is part of the law of every part of the United Kingdom. It may also be extended by Order in Council to the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and British overseas territories. The provisions applicable to members of the armed forces will apply to them wherever they are in the world.

14.The Act does not contain any provisions falling within the terms of the Sewel Convention. Because the Sewel Convention provides that Westminster will not normally legislate with regard to devolved matters in Scotland without the consent of the Scottish Parliament, if there are amendments relating to such matters which trigger the Convention, the consent of the Scottish Parliament will be sought for them.
