The Secretaries of State respectively concerned with health in England and in Wales, the Secretary of State concerned with health and with agriculture in Scotland, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Head of the Department of Health and Social Services for Northern Ireland and the Head of the Department of Agriculture for Northern Ireland, acting jointly, in exercise of powers conferred by section 17 of the Medicines Act 1968 and now vested in them1 and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, after consulting such organisations as appear to them to be representative of interests likely to be substantially affected by the following order, hereby make the following order:—
Citation and interpretation1

This order may be cited as the Medicines (Termination of Transitional Exemptions) (No. 2) Order 1974.

In this order, unless the context otherwise requires, “the Act” means the Medicines Act 1968 and other expressions have the same meanings as in the Act.

The rules for the construction of Acts of Parliament contained in the Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the purposes of the interpretation of this order as they apply for the purposes of the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
Termination of transitional exemptions from licences for ingredients2
Without prejudice to the provisions of Article 2(b) of the Medicines (Termination of Transitional Exemptions) (No. 1) Order 19722 (wholesale dealing in certain medicinal products), the 1st September 1974 shall be the day appointed for the purposes of subsections (2) to (5) of section 16 of the Act (transitional exemptions) as being the day upon which those subsections shall cease to have effect in relation to anything done on or after that day in so far as it relates to a substance that is a medicinal product by virtue only of the provisions of section 130(1)(b) of the Act (ingredients).
