The Road Vehicles (Prescribed Regulations for the Purposes of Increased Penalties) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987

The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 34(3)(a) of the Vehicles (Excise) Act (Northern Ireland) 1972(1), as set out in paragraph 24 of Part I of Schedule 9 to that Act, now vested in him(2), and of all other enabling powers, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Road Vehicles (Prescribed Regulations for the Purposes of Increased Penalties) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987 and shall come into force on 1st January 1988.

Prescribing of regulations

2.  The regulations of the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1973(3) specified in column (1) of the Table below, the subject matter of which is briefly described in column (2) of the Table, are hereby prescribed for the purposes of paragraph (a) of section 34(3) of the Vehicles (Excise) Act (Northern Ireland) 1972 (as set out in paragraph 24 of Part I of Schedule 9 to that Act).

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations prescribe the regulations of the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1973 where a contravention is to attract a maximum penalty of a fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale (currently £400). Contraventions of other regulations of the 1973 Regulations not hereby prescribed, and of other sets of regulations made under the Vehicles (Excise) Act (Northern Ireland) 1972, continue to attract a lesser maximum penalty of a fine not exceeding level 2 (£100).
