POLICE
These Regulations consolidate, with amendments, the Police Regulations 1979 and the instruments amending those Regulations, namely the Regulations set out in Schedule 1. In addition to minor and drafting amendments the Regulations make the following changes of substance—in regulation 59 (Advances to cover expenses when away on duty—formerly regulation 57) an advance is to be made only if the member so requests; andin Schedule 9, paragraph 1 (Bicycle allowance) and Schedule 10, paragraph 1 (Typewriter allowance) the annual rate is no longer prescribed but is to be specified by the Secretary of State.

PART VALLOWANCES AND OTHER EMOLUMENTS
Dog handler’s allowance63
1
Where a dog owned by the police authority is kept and cared for by a member of a police force at his home, the member shall be paid a dog handler’s allowance in respect of the care accorded to the dog on the member’s rest days and on public holidays.
2
A dog handler’s allowance shall be of an amount determined in accordance with Schedule 11.
3
For the purposes of this regulation and of Schedule 11 a member of a police force shall be treated as keeping and caring for a dog at his home if he would be so doing but for his being on annual leave.
