The Education (School Teacher Appraisal) Regulations 1991

Interpretation

2.  In these Regulations unless the context otherwise requires—

  • “appraising body” means—

    (a)

    in the case of a teacher employed at a school maintained by a local education authority, the local education authority;

    (b)

    in the case of a teacher employed at a grant-maintained school, the governing body of the school;

  • “appraisal record” means the appraisal statements prepared under Regulation 10(2) in respect of a school teacher;

  • “qualified teacher” has the meaning assigned thereto by Regulation 13 of the Education (Teachers) Regulations 1989(1);

  • “probationary teacher” means a teacher to whom Schedule 6 to the Education (Teachers) Regulations 1989 applies;

  • “school” means a school maintained by a local education authority, or a grantmaintained school;

  • “school teacher” means a qualified teacher, other than a probationary teacher, employed at any one school maintained by a local education authority or at any one grantmaintained school to work either full-time or not less than forty per cent of full-time, except on a contract of less than one school year’s duration.
