The Lothian Region (Electoral Arrangements) Amendment Order 1994

4th February 1994

Coming into force in accordance with Article 1(2)

Whereas under section 17(1) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973(1) the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland have submitted to the Secretary of State on 23rd December 1993 a report on a review of the electoral arrangements for Lothian Region which they have conducted under section 16(3) of that Act, together with proposals which they have formulated for a substantive change in those arrangements;

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 17(2) of the said Act, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Lothian Region (Electoral Arrangements) Amendment Order 1994.

(2) This Order shall come into force on 5th May 1994 provided that for the purpose of all proceedings preliminary or relating to an election to be held on or after that day the said Order shall come into force forthwith.

2.  The Schedule to the Lothian Region (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1993(2) shall be amended by substituting for the paragraph headed “Electoral Division 29: Portobello/Milton” the following paragraph:–

Electoral Division 29 (Portobello/Milton)

Commencing on the northern boundary of Lothian Region and the City of Edinburgh District at the eastern boundary of ED 20 (Lorne/Harbour) near Seafield Sewage Works; then southeastward along the said regional and district boundary to the eastern boundary of the City of Edinburgh District; then southwestward along the said district boundary to the Brunstane Burn; then generally southwestward along the said burn and the Niddrie Burn to Duddingston Park South; then northward along Duddingston Park South to and eastward along Milton Road to Hope Lane; then northward along Hope Lane to where it crosses the Edinburgh to Dunbar railway; then generally northwestward along the Figgate Burn; then continuing northwestward along the said ED 27 boundary to the eastern boundary of ED 28 (links/Restalrig) at Portobello Road; then generally northward along the said ED boundary and the eastern boundary of ED 20 to the point of commencement..

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order gives effect to a proposal made by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland for a substantive change to the boundary of Electoral Division 29 of Lothian Region as described in the Lothian Region (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1993 (“the 1993 Order”).

The amendments made by this Order to the boundaries of Electoral Division 29 have a consequential effect on the boundary of Electoral Division 38 of Lothian Region as described in the 1993 Order.
