Citation and interpretation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Housing Act 1996 (Commencement No. 5 and Transitional Provisions) Order 1996.

(2) In this Order, “the Act” means the Housing Act 1996.

Commencement

2.  Subject to the transitional provision in paragraph 1 of the Schedule to this Order, the following provisions of the Act shall come into force on 20th January 1997—

  • sections 175 and 176,

  • section 177 to the extent that it is not already in force,

  • sections 178 to 181,

  • section 183 to the extent that it is not already in force,

  • section 184,

  • section 185 to the extent that it is not already in force,

  • sections 186 to 188,

  • section 189 to the extent that it is not already in force,

  • sections 190 to 193,

  • section 194 to the extent that it is not already in force,

  • sections 195 to 197,

  • section 198 to the extent that it is not already in force,

  • section 199 to the extent that it is not already in force,

  • sections 200 to 202,

  • section 203 to the extent that it is not already in force,

  • sections 204 to 206,

  • section 207 to the extent that it is not already in force,

  • sections 208 and 209,

  • section 210 to the extent that it is not already in force,

  • sections 211 to 214,

  • section 216, and

  • section 227 in so far as it relates to Part VIII of Schedule 19.

3.  Subject to the transitional provision in paragraph 2 of the Schedule to this Order, the following provisions of the Act shall come into force on 1st April 1997—

  • section 159,

  • sections 160 to 163 to the extent that they are not already in force,

  • section 164,

  • section 165 to the extent that it is not already in force,

  • section 166,

  • section 167 to the extent that it is not already in force,

  • section 168,

  • sections 170 and 171,

  • section 173, and

  • section 227 in so far as it relates to Part VII of Schedule 19.
