The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council
Her Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 247 of the Local Government Act 1972(1), is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:
1. This Order may be cited as the Local Authorities (Armorial Bearings) (Wales) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 14th March 1996.
2. The armorial bearings which, immediately before 1st April 1974, were borne and used by the corporation of the borough of Newport may be borne and used by the Borough Council of Newport, provided they have first been exemplified according to the law of arms and recorded in the College of Arms.

This Order authorises the Borough Council of Newport to bear and use the armorial bearings of the former corporation of the borough of Newport.
