Commencement on 25th June 1997 for certain purposes only3

Subject to the modifications set out in paragraphs (3) and (4) below, the provisions of the Act which are listed in paragraph (2) below shall come into force on 25th June 1997 for the purposes of the appointment, as soon as possible thereafter, of members of the Service Authority for the National Criminal Intelligence Service and members of the Service Authority for the National Crime Squad.

The provisions referred to in paragraph (1) are—
a
section 1 (the Service Authority for the National Criminal Intelligence Service);
b
section 47 (the Service Authority for the National Crime Squad);
c
Schedule 1 (appointment of members of Service Authorities); and
d
Schedule 2 (other provisions about members of Service Authorities).

In paragraph 13 to Schedule 1 for the words “clerk to a Service Authority” there shall be substituted “Secretary of State”.

Schedule 2 shall have effect as if there was inserted after paragraph 15 the following:

The first meeting of the Service Authority shall be—
a
held within 21 days after appointments to it have been made under Schedule 1; and
b
treated as being the annual meeting of the authority in the year in which it is held.

The provisions of article 5 of the Police Act 1997 (Commencement No. 1 and Transitional Provisions) Order 1997 shall have effect in relation to the first meeting of a Service Authority.
