Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order provides for the periods of summer time in the years 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. During those periods the time for general purposes in the United Kingdom and the Bailiwick of Guernsey (but not the Isle of Man or the Bailiwick of Jersey which have their own legislation on the subject) will be one hour in advance of Greenwich mean time. This Order implements the EC Eighth Summer Time Directive 97/44/EC (OJ No. L206, 1.8.97, p. 62) which establishes the start and end dates and times of the periods of summer time for those years in the Member States of the European Community.
