Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order designates a school to be established on 1st September and to be known as Dr Challoner’s High School as a grammar school for the purposes of Chapter II of Part III of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998. The school is to be established as a voluntary controlled school in substitution for a county school of the same name.

The order also amends the Education (Grammar School Designation) Order 1998 by omitting two schools in Bristol. Proposals for the two schools in Bristol to cease to have selective admission arrangements were published by the local education authority under section 35 of the Education Act 1996 and have been determined to be implemented under section 38 of that Act.
