The Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 (Commencement No. 2) Order 2000

In exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 68(3) of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999(1), the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

Citation

1.  This Order may be cited as the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 (Commencement No. 2) Order 2000.

Appointed Day

2.  The following provisions of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 shall come into force on 14th April 2000—

(a)sections 59 and 60;

(b)paragraphs 15, 16, 17 and 22 of Schedule 4, and section 67(1) in so far as it refers to them; and

(c)in Schedule 6 the entries specified in the Schedule to this Order, and section 67(3) in so far as it relates to them.

Extent

3.—(1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) below, this Order extends to England and Wales only.

(2) Section 59 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 and the amendments made by Schedule 3 to that Act shall not extend to Scotland but otherwise the extent of any amendment made by Schedule 3 shall be the same as that of the enactment amended.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force sections 59 and 60 of, and paragraphs 15 to 17 and 22 of Schedule 4 to, the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999. The Order also commences a number of repeals consequential upon the coming into force of section 60, together with repeals of provisions in the Children and Young Persons Act 1969 and the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 which serve no purpose following the coming into force of the provisions in Schedule 5 to the Act of 1999 on 1st January 2000.
