The Public Service Vehicles Accessibility (Amendment) Regulations 2002

Coming into force

The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 40(1), (2), (6) and (7) and 67(2) of the Disability Discrimination Act 19951 and after having consulted the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee and such other representative organisations as he thinks fit hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation, commencement and extent1

These Regulations may be cited as the Public Service Vehicles Accessibility (Amendment) Regulations 2002 and shall come into force on 31st December 2002.

These Regulations shall extend to Great Britain.

Amendments2

The Public Service Vehicles Accessibility Regulations 20002 shall be amended in accordance with the following provisions.

In regulation 4 (exemptions), paragraph (2) for “1 January 2003”, there shall be substituted “1 January 2004”.

In Schedule 1, in paragraph 5 (boarding lifts and ramps), in sub-paragraph (3)(c), for “7°”, there shall be substituted “8°”.

These Regulations amend the Public Service Vehicles Accessibility Regulations 2000. Their main effect is to put back the date on which the requirements of paragraph 5(3)(b) to (e) of Schedule 1 (boarding ramps) come into effect from 1st January 2003 to 1st January 2004. They also increase the angle of slope of a fitted wheelchair ramp to a maximum of 8°.
