The Act deals with how the NHS and local authorities must deal with patients whose discharge from hospital is delayed. The Act makes provision for co-operative working in order to avoid delayed discharges, and requires local authorities to reimburse the relevant NHS body where a patient’s discharge has been delayed due to a failure of the local social services authority.
