BETTING, GAMING AND LOTTERIES

The Horserace Betting and Olympic Lottery Act 2004 (Commencement No. 2) Order 2005

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon her by section 40 of the Horserace Betting and Olympic Lottery Act 2004(1), hereby makes the following order:

Citation and Interpretation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Horserace Betting and Olympic Lottery Act 2004 (Commencement No. 2) Order 2005.

(2) In this Order “the Act” means the Horserace Betting and Olympic Lottery Act 2004.

Commencement

2.  The following provisions of the Act shall come into force on 8th April 2005:

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force certain provisions of the Horserace Betting and Olympic Lottery Act 2004 on 8th April 2005. Sections 21 and 22 govern the licensing and timing of Olympic Lotteries. Sections 23 and 28 deal with the creation and winding up of the Olympic Lottery Distribution Fund (the Fund). Section 24 provides for the payment of proceeds from Olympic Lotteries to be made to the Fund. These sections are commenced to enable the National Lottery Commission to undertake work relating to Olympic Lottery licences. This will facilitate promotion of Olympic Lottery Games, without delay, if London is elected host city for the 2012 Olympic Games. The election of host city is to take place on 6th July 2005. The remaining sections commenced relate to administrative, interpretative, financial and extent provisions as well as making necessary consequential amendments and repeals to the National Lottery etc Act 1993.
