1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Oil Pollution) (Bunkers Convention) Regulations 2006.

(2) Subject to paragraph (4), these Regulations shall come into force on the day on which the International Convention on Civil Liability for Bunker Oil Pollution Damage 2001(1) comes into force in respect of the United Kingdom.

(3) The date on which these Regulations are to come into force shall be notified by the Secretary of State in the London, Edinburgh and Belfast Gazettes.

(4) These Regulations shall come into force on 15th July 2006 so far as may be necessary for the purpose of enabling certificates under section 164(1A) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995(2) (as inserted by regulation 18) to be issued before the date mentioned in paragraph (2).

(5) Nothing in these Regulations applies in relation to—

(a)any occurrence before the day mentioned in paragraph (2); or

(b)any occurrence in a series of occurrences having the same origin, if the first took place before that day.
