The Secretary of State is a Minister designated(1) for the purpose of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972(2) in relation to changes in terminology or numbering arising out of the Treaty of Lisbon Amending the Treaty on European Union and the Treaty Establishing the European Community signed at Lisbon on 13th December 2007.

The Secretary of State makes the following order in exercise of the powers conferred by:

(a)

section 3(4) and (5) of the European Union (Amendment) Act 2008(3) (to the extent that the order applies to provisions contained in (i) an Act of Parliament passed before 19th June 2008, or (ii) an instrument made before 19th June 2008 under an Act of Parliament), and

(b)

section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972 (to the extent that the order applies to provisions contained in (i) an Act of Parliament passed on or after 19th June 2008, (ii) an instrument made on or after 19th June 2008 under an Act of Parliament, or (iii) an instrument made under an Act of the Scottish Parliament):

Citation

1.  This Order may be cited as the Treaty of Lisbon (Changes in Terminology or Numbering) Order 2012.

Commencement

2.—(1) This Order comes into force on 1st August 2012.

(2) The amendments made by this Order do not affect any provision in its application to things done before 1st December 2009 (the date on which the Treaty of Lisbon came into force).

Changes in terminology or numbering

3.—(1) In each of the provisions specified in the Tables in Parts 1 to 3 of the Schedule, for the words specified in the third column there are substituted the words specified in the fourth column.

(2) In each of the provisions specified in the Table in Part 4 of the Schedule, for the words specified in the third or fourth column there are substituted respectively the words specified in the fifth or sixth column.

This Order makes technical amendments to primary and secondary legislation to reflect changes in terminology and numbering relating to the European Union treaties arising from the Treaty of Lisbon. It also removes spent references to the Treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community.

A Regulatory Impact Assessment has not been prepared for this instrument as it has no impact on business, charities or voluntary bodies.
