The Welsh Language Schemes (Public Bodies) Order 2001

Coming into force

1st August 2001

Whereas it appears to the National Assembly for Wales that the persons referred to in the Schedule to this Order are persons exercising functions of a public nature;

Now therefore the National Assembly for Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred upon the Secretary of State by section 6(1) of the Welsh Language Act 1993 and now vested in the National Assembly(1), and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Welsh Language Schemes (Public Bodies) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 1 August 2001.

Specification of Public Bodies

2.  Persons referred to in the Schedule to this Order are specified for the purposes of Part II of the Welsh Language Act 1993.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

Under Part II of the Welsh Language Act 1993 (“the Act”) the Welsh Language Board may give notice in writing to any public body to produce a Welsh Language Scheme. Section 6 of the Act lists various public bodies for the purposes of Part II of the Act and provides that the Secretary of State (now the National Assembly) may specify further public bodies for those purposes.

This Order specifies further public bodies for the purposes of Part II of the Act.

Two previous Orders have been made under section 6 of the Act:

The Welsh Language Schemes (Public Bodies) Order 1996 (1996/1898); and

The Welsh Language Schemes (Public Bodies) Order 1999 (1999/1100).
