Mae'r Gorchymyn hwn yn diwygio Gorchymyn Addysg (Y Cwricwlwm Cenedlaethol) (Trefniadau Asesu Cyfnod Allweddol 3) (Cymru) 1997 yn sgîl newidiadau i'r Cwricwlwm Cenedlaethol a ddaeth i rym yn Awst 2000. Cyn y newidiadau hynny, nid oedd darpariaeth ar gyfer mesur lefelau cyrhaeddiad disgyblion mewn celf, cerddoriaeth ac addysg gorfforol yng nghyfnod allweddol 3 drwy gyfrwng graddfa ffurfiol. Yn hytrach, i fesur cyraeddiadau disgyblion yng nghyfnod allweddol 3, yr oedd y Cwricwlwm Cenedlaethol yn cynnwys yr hyn a elwid “Disgrifiadau diwedd cyfnod allweddol” ar gyfer pob targed cyrhaeddiad. O dan y Cwricwlwm Cenedlaethol newydd, mae yna ddarpariaeth erbyn hyn ar gyfer mesur lefelau cyrhaeddiad disgyblion yn y pynciau hyn drwy gyfrwng graddfa. Mae'r diwygiadau a wneir yn sgîl y Gorchymyn hwn i Orchymyn 1997 yn adlewyrchu'r newidiadau hyn.
