The Secretary of State for the Environment, as respects England and the Secretary of State for Wales, as respects Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by section 83(1) of the Local Government Act 1972 (1), section 31(7) of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Local Elections (Principal Areas) (Declaration of Acceptance of Office) Order 1990 and shall come into force on 3rd May 1990.
2. The declaration of acceptance of office by the chairman, vice-chairman or a councillor of the council of a county, district or London borough shall be in the form in the Schedule to this Order, or a form to the like effect.

This Order prescribes the form of declaration of acceptance of office to be made by the chairman, vice-chairman or a councillor of the council of a county, district or London borough under section 83(1) of the Local Government Act 1972. The declarant is required to undertake to be guided by the National Code of Local Government Conduct issued under section 31(1) of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
