EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING, ENGLAND

The Learning and Skills Act 2000 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2000

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 154(1) and (3) of the Learning and Skills Act 2000(1) the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and interpretation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Learning and Skills Act 2000 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2000.

(2) In this Order “the Act” means the Learning and Skills Act 2000.

Provision coming into force

2.—(1) The provisions of the Act specified in Part I of the Schedule to this Order shall come into force on 3rd August 2000.

(2) The provision of the Act specified in Part II of the Schedule to this Order shall come into force on 10th August 2000.

(3) The provision of the Act specified in Part III of the Schedule to this Order shall come into force on 1st September 2000.

(4) Unless otherwise specified in the Schedule to this Order the provisions referred to in paragraphs (1) to (3) above shall come into force for all purposes.

SCHEDULE

PART IPROVISIONS COMING INTO FORCE ON 3RD AUGUST 2000

  • Sections 52 and 53.

  • Section 60.

  • Sections 69 and 70.

  • Sections 104 to 109.

  • Section 139 insofar as it relates to England, except insofar as it inserts subsection (12) into section 19 of the Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998.

  • Section 149 insofar as it relates to the provisions of Schedule 9 specified below.

  • Schedule 6.

  • In Schedule 9, paragraph 2 and 3 insofar as they relate to the Adult Learning Inspectorate.

  • Sections 14 to 22.

  • Sections 24 to 27.

  • Section 29.

  • Section 92.

  • Section 94.

  • Section 95 insofar as it relates to England.

  • Section 110 (1) insofar as it relates to England, to the extent that it inserts section 2(2A) into the Education Act 1996.

  • Section 110(2) insofar as it relates to England, to the extent that it relates to section 110(3) of the Act.

  • Section 110(3) insofar as it relates to England.

  • Section 149 insofar as it relates to the provisions of Schedule 9 specified below.

  • Schedules 1 to 3.

  • In Schedule 9—

    • paragraph 2 to 4 insofar as they relate to the Learning and Skills Council for England,

    • paragraph 69 insofar as it relates to England,

    • paragraph 87.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings the provisions of the Learning and Skills Act 2000 specified in Part I of the Schedule into force on 3rd August 2000, the provision of that Act specified in Part II of the Schedule into force on 10th August 2000 and the provisions of that Act specified in Part III of the Schedule into force on 1st September 2000.
