A draft of this Order has been laid before Parliament in accordance with section 104(5) of the Building Societies Act 1986(1) and section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972(2) and approved by both Houses of Parliament.
The Treasury is a department designated(3) in relation to the conduct of the business of a building society, and the authorisation and regulation of the carrying on of business by building societies, and in relation to auditors and the audit of accounts.
The Treasury, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 104(1), (3) and (4) of the Building Societies Act 1986 and by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972, make the following Order.
